Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo™ NAS (Network Attached Storage) For Home or Business

I recently installed a couple of these Buffalo Linkstation NAS units for a small company. We are using two units, rotated weekly to provide an offsite backup. Each unit has two 500 gigabyte hard drives, which can be mirrored for redundancy, or setup in raid 0 for a terabyte of storage. These units come with a good array of network features that allow flexibility and functionality. As I started to configure domain authentication so my backup script could authenticate, I started thinking that I need to get one of these for my home network.

After reviewing several other NAS devices comparing brands, features and prices I decided to purchase the Buffalo LinkStation 2tb unit for my home. This would allow me to back up several computers and use the media server functionality as well. For the past few years I have been backing up to a second hard drive in my primary machine, but each of my kids have a computer and their stuff has been considered expendable (at least by me). With the addition of this Buffalo Network Attached Storage Device, even my kids have a backup solution. Another benefit has been the ability to consolidate our media, thus saving space on our computer hard drives and eliminating redundant files.

Network Attached Storage

I feel Buffalo’s LinkStation Pro Duo is an ideal, and affordable, solution to keep important files safe. The Pro Duo is a 2-drive NAS solution that can be configured in RAID 0 for performance or RAID 1 for redundant storage. If one drive fails, the other still has a copy of the data. As an Active Directory client the Pro Duo can integrated into any business network and Web Access makes remote file access easy! A network attached storage device solves the problem of backing up several machines on a home network, and this buffalo unit provides a lot of storage and features for the money.
